Book Review

Finding the Deep River Within: A Woman's Guide to Recovering Balance and Meaning in Everyday Life by Abby Seixas. Jossey-Bass, San Francisco, 2006; 256 pages, ISBN 0-7879-9749-8, paperback $14.95.

This practical, inspirational book shares suggestions and techniques that help women reclaim the pace of their lives and access the resources that reside deep within them. The six core practices are: taking "time-in," time spent alone to step back from daily activities; making boundaries; befriending feelings; taming self-expectations; practicing being in the present moment; and doing something you love.  The author, a psychotherapist, provides examples, explanations, questions, and practices that help women slow down, step back, and nourish their spirits.

I found this a realistic and encouraging book that can make a difference in unclenching attitudes to life and self, and improving the quality of daily experience. – Sarah Belle Dougherty (January 2009)
